The Egyptian Ministry of Interior was established in 1805 when Muhammad Ali Pasha created the Diwan of the Wali to maintain security in Cairo. On February 25, 1857, it became the Department of the Interior, and later a Ministry, with Hussein Rushdie Pasha serving as the first Minister of Interior.
